The Post-Dispatch's fourth Weatherbird artist, Amadee Wohlschlaeger began his tenure in 1932 and illustrated the bird for almost 50 years. To the public, Wohlschlaeger was better known simply as Amadee, since he had a difficult to spell last name. Amadee is credited with modifying the Bird's bill, and, just as his predecessor S. Carlisle Martin, was accused of making the Bird look more like a frog. His birds also are recognizable by their loud sports coats and cigars. Amadee retired from the Post-Dispatch in 1981.
