Caption: In April 1926, Phillips arranged to have a casket brought into a St. Louis courtroom to prove that it had been used to fraudulently collect on a $3,000 life-insurance policy. Phillips is at right, behind the casket. Third from left, nearest the casket, is Raymond Allen, whose death was faked by others. Allen testified in court. Phillips, a lawyer for Liberty Insurance Co., discovered the fraud, which led to the conviction of an undertaker. (Post-Dispatch)
