Chernick was the getaway-car driver who drove off when police arrived at the bank. He was arrested three days later at his father's house in Chicago. Chernick, 22, had played quarterback for Marquette University in Milwaukee but was expelled and was awaiting trial for a theft of wholesale cigarettes when he took part in the bank robbery.
