Wednesday March 23, 2011 - St. Louis - Young Fu, left, of Richmond Heights lets his daughter Claire, 1, get feel the fresh blooms on a weeping Higan cherry tree (or a prunus subhirtella pendula) Wednesday at the Missouri Botanical Garden's Japanese garden. The Higans have bloomed before others cherry genuses this year but they expect the Yoshino cherries (or prunus x yedoensis) to be at peak bloom this weekend if current weather persists.
