Jefferson Barracks OK on space until 2027

A decade ago, cemetery managers warned they would run out of space by 2010. But through expansion and some reorganizing, the cemetery, with an average of 17 daily burials, is hoping to make it possibly to 2027.
MAY 27 2011- Today is his birthday. We came to sing to him., said Lindy Flynn, who visited her husband's grave with her daughter Mary Ann Liebrock of Fenton at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery Friday afternoon. A decade ago, cemetery managers warned they would run out of space by 2010. But through expansion and some reorganizing, the cemetery, with an average of 17 daily burials, is hoping to make it possibly to 2027. Veteran Thomas Flynn who died in February is buried in section 1-IIA which was started August 1, 2010. The section holds 2145 grave sites and is expected to fill by July 5 2011. MAY 27 2011- Section 1-X, part of the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery is expected to open in 2 years. Similiar to other expansion sited, the concrete grave liners are pre-buried in the ground. They are 3ft by 8ft as one foot shorter than earlier liners to save space. Laurie Skrivan| lskrivan@post-dispatch.com

Holder, who was buried May 16th will be one of the last in section 1-IIA which was started August 1, 2010. The section holds 2145 grave sites and is expected to fill by July 5 2011.
