Words on three cakes welcome home Chas Shaffer at a party thrown by his father Thursday at the VFW Post 805 in O'Fallon, Illinois.  Shaffer, an Army specialist from O'Fallon, Illinois, has re-enlisted after losing a leg from an IED attack in Mosul, Iraq and will be stationed at an Army command on Scott Air Force Base.

Deanna Jent holds the hand of her autistic son Andy after he becomes distracted by the sound of an ambulance siren. What does an ambulance do, Deanna asked her son. It helps people, he answered back. Jent's autobiographical play Falling,  opens this week. The play is about a woman and her autistic son.

Students enter Westminster Christian Academy through the Grand Entry on Monday morning, the first day of classes at the school. Westminster opened their new campus this year with 930 students from grades 7-12. The $70 million dollar school is one of the largest and most expensive schools ever built in the St. Louis area.

August 25, 2011 - Exposed brick and a restored tin ceiling, both original to the Sears Roebuck store on Piasa Street in downtown Alton, will be featured in the fitting rooms at John Frew's expanding business, Frew's Bridal Boutique. John and Erin Frew are renovating both the old Sears store and adjoining Snyder Block building for home to both their retail and online bridal supply business.

August 25, 2011 - A staircase was recently added to the US Bank offices inside the Fashion Square Lofts on Washington Avenue to connect three levels that the bank occupies.  Most recently it added the second floor as the headquarters for its community development corporation division.
