Vanessa Slaughter, co-owner of Papa Joe's, wipes down the tables at her shop at Jamestown Mall in Florissant. The shop opened June 25 in the mall location. The shops original location was on her father's front porch where she remembers him selling snacks after returning home from his construction job. Lots of kids didn't have dads so they started calling him Papa Joe and the name stuck, Slaughter said. It's a community place, very basic and very simple, she said of the shop.
