Joe Pinson walks by his home in the 2000 block of Knox Ave. shortly after firefighters extinguished a fire that was allegedly caused by a space heater in the second-floor bedroom. Pinson, who lives there with his mother, escaped the house at around 6:30 am after fire engulfed her bedroom. If I had to work late, I would have probably lost my mom today, he said.

The 5,000 acre Minninghaw fire is about 70% contained, arson is the suspected cause of the fire.   The crew working the fire are contractors with PatRick Environmental  out of Asheville, N.C..
