Jim Jacobs of Ballwin holds his wife Susan Jacobs (right) and family friend Kerri Germann (left) as they kneel at the fallen soldier memorial before the start of the vigil at the steps of Soldiers' Memorial in downtown St. Louis on Friday night, Jan. 27, 2012. The Jacobs' son Army Sgt. Zachary Fisher was killed in Afghanistan in July 2010. We decided we could not have his name read without someone from his family here. We had to be here, Jim said of coming to the vigil. The names of the 6,507 service men and women who lost their lives in the wars following 9-11 were read throughout the night.
