The once grand ballroom in the Jefferson Arms building is now in ruins.
McGowan Brothers Development has applied for federal New Markets Tax Credits and other public incentives to rehab the Jefferson Arms building on Tucker Boulevard in downtown St. Louis. The building would also serve as a regional headquarters Teach for America as well as provide affordable housing to the hundreds of young teachers the programs brings in each year. They estimate the construction on the project would take about 18 months.

Second District Commissioner Ann Schroeder leads the administrative working session at Franklin County Government Center in Union on Thursday, March 15, 2012. Of the Missouri's 330 county commissioners, only 15 are women. I remember going to my first annual commissioners training. Someone said to me 'now honey who are you here with,' Schroeder said of the lack of women in the field. She took office in 2001.
