Albert "Red" Schoendienst played second base for the Cardinals, starting in 1945. He also managed the Redbirds, and took the team to the World Series twice. Almost seventy years after he first began his association with the Cardinals, he is still with them; he is a special assistant to the general manager. Red was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989.

September 22, 1968- A kiss for Red Schoendienst, St. Louis Cardinal manager, is a reward from his daughter Eileen as Red and the team were greeted at the airport. OCT. 7, 1967 POST-DISPATCH FILE PHOTO---Home plate umpire Frank Umont halts World Series game in the first inning to warn managers Red Schoendienst (Cardinals) and Diick Williams (Red Sox) about any brush back pitches.  The incident followed a low, inside pitch by Cardinals hurler Nelson Briles which hit Carl Yastremski in the leg.

October 4, 1976- Good Luck was bestowed on Red by his wife, Mary, before the start of the first game of the 1967 World Series with Boston Red Sox. The Cardinals won the world championship under Red's direction, beating the Red Sox in seven games.  UPI Telephoto
