Rosa Mayer walks up Olive Street to meet friends for lunch Wednesday, April 11, 2012, downtown. Mayer moved to St. Louis from New York three years ago with a job with AmeriCorps. When the job ended, wanting to stay she wrote a letter to Mayor Slay. I wrote to him saying you want young people to stay in your city. Help me find a job, said Mayer. And when someone in Slay's office replied with several suggestions, Mayer was on her way. I don't think Mayor Bloomberg would have done that ! There is so much opportunity in St. Louis. I even convinced a friend back home to move here too, said Mayer, Photo by Laurie Skrivan, lskrivan@post-dispatch.com
