Donned in her firefighter uniform, Debra Johnson of St. Peters is ready to begin a simulated search and rescue drill at the Citizen Fire Academy Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in St. Peters. It's been eye-opening, said Johnson, a assistant professor at Lindenwood University, who signed up for the academy with a colleague. We found the victim inside but had trouble finding the door on the way. It was so dark. And just think there was no real fire or real victims, said Johnson, talking about the simulated search and rescue in a smoked filled building. Photo by Laurie Skrivan, lskrivan@post-dispatch.com
