Amy Sandier (left), who use to live in a homeless encampment called Dignity Harbor north of the Arch, consoles Stephanie Perry, from Ballwin, as Perry watches the one of the last encampments, Sparta and Atlantis, along the river front north of the Arch are torn down on Friday, May 18, 2012. The city of St. Louis worked through Catholic Charities to help the homeless residents find permanent housing or place the residence in temporary housing until permanent housing could be secured. Perry feels it's good the people in the camps have been moved out to temporary housing and will hopefully be transferred to permanent housing. But she has concerns that many of the people who lived in the camp have underlying mental illnesses that will go untreated and unrecognized and will wind up being homeless again. Perry and her husband made many visits to the camps to help the residence with food, shelter, medicine, and trips to the doctors for medical attention.
