Young Fu, left, of Richmond Heights lets his daughter Claire, 1, get feel the fresh blooms on a weeping Higan cherry tree (or a prunus subhirtella pendula) Wednesday at the Missouri Botanical Garden's Japanese garden. The Higans have bloomed before others cherry genuses this year but they expect the Yoshino cherries (or prunus x yedoensis) to be at peak bloom this weekend if current weather persists.

A puff of show smoke is seen from the engine of a 1945 B-25 bomber plane Saturday as it flew over the Mississippi River during the 30th Annual Fair St. Louis at the Gateway Arch. The bomber, flown by Greg Vallero, belongs to the Commemorative Air Force, which has a wing at the St. Charles County Airport.

July 20, 2011 -- When it's hot, the water feels good, says Alyssa Wright, 11, of Collinsville, Ill. (left).  Aiden Wright, 4, examines small rocks his sister, Alyssa, found in the split basin at the Citygarden in St. Louis, Mo.  Aiden said he likes coming to Citygarden because It's so fun and it has water.  It's very fun.  Temperatures are forecast to remain near 100 deg through the rest of the week with cooler air coming in the following week bringing highs back to a more normal 90 degrees.

Band director Brian Wyss leads the 8th grade band at Truman Middle School in The Great Locomotive Chase on Friday, May 11, 2012. Wyss teaches band at both Truman and Sperreng. Last year Sperreng Middle School was the largest middle school in the state with 1300 students. This year the school split in half with about 650 kids staying at Sperreng and the other 650 kids going to Truman Middle School, which was formerly an elementary school. The band room at Truman is new. It was formerly used as a warehouse area in the school.

Mariah Hall, 10, pulls a wagon full of strawberries she picked with her four siblings and cousins at Thies Farm in Maryland Heights Tuesday afternoon. Her mom Leah Hall said the family comes to the farm every year. It's a big event for us every year. We love this place. It's the only farm close where we can get stuff like this.

JULY 16 2009 -  Alex Counts, 13,  and Mariah Brooks,13, both of Oakville, enjoy the final rays of sun before its sets at the Pelican Bay Resort  in The Lake of the Ozarks Thursday night.  Citing a negative impact of tourism as a concern, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources waited four weeks to release a report showing water samples tested at unsafe levels of E Coli.
