Laurie Skrivan, a St. Louis native and graduate of Clayton High School and the University of Missouri, is a staff photographer for the Post-Dispatch. For the paper she has covered issues including lead poisoning, childhood obesity, the plight of Bosnian refugees and the survivors of hurricane Katrina. She has also photographed a Super Bowl and two World Series.
 I want to be up there, mumbles an star-struck Holly Heinemann, 9, who was frozen as the curtain drew open for the Cheetah Girls. Before the concert Heinemann and her friends celebrated a birthday party at Club Libby Lu for a princess makeover treatment.

More than 300 mourners filled Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church on Monday morning to honor the life of Roger Kreutz, a man who many at the service described as a Good Samaritan. Kreutz, 54, died early Wednesday, two days after he was the victim of a hit-and-run outside the Crestwood Starbucks. He had tried to stop a thief from stealing the coffee shop's tip jar. The car door struck Kreutz, who fell and suffered severe head injuries.

Madison County Health Department registered nurses Teresa Clark and Jenny Sykes retest the soil at the Miller property as Kirsten Miller and her husband Steve and Destiny, 3, watch. The Millers, who live on top a former lead mining and smelter site, had their yard replaced last fall when it tested hot for lead contamination. The health department came back to retest the soil and make sure it was no longer contaminated since the Miller's daughter still struggles with a high lead level.

I might use the Metrolink more if I could ride for free, said Verties Duff, 79, of East St. Louis, Ill., who rides the MetroLink to the Washington Park station from thestop at  Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. Time flexible, a proposal by Gov. Rod Blagojevich, would allow senior citizens to ride public transit in Illinois for free.

After initating the new pitchers of the St. Louis Cardinal bullpen with a trust fall, Opening Day  starter Adam Wainwright wanted a turn. I want to trust my bullpen too, said Wainwright, who peacefully fell into the arms of his teammates Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

I love this, said Patrick Shaughnessy, 21, of Southview School, while rolling around in the Jupiter Jump at the Special Olympics at Pattonville High School. More than 100 athletes from Neuwohmer, Southview and Northview Schools teamed up with Pattonville junior and seniors in a variety of activities and games.

As part of his daily morning ritual, Elmer Red  Meng leans over to kiss his the pillow where his deceased wife Dorothy Dot Meng slept. God I love you and miss you something terrible. And I pray that you are with Jesus and Mary in paradise -- I'd like to spend eternity with you. So pray for me like I am praying for you, Hun, he says.  Meng has lived in the same house for 53 years.

Pre-tween girls ranging in age from 5-9-years-old are the next generation of spa-goers and a new marketing opportunity for an industry that has considered them and treated them as not to seen pests. Are these girls growing up too quickly?  It didn't take long for the girls to grow into more adult behavior. I wish they had cucumbers for my eyes, said Caroline.

It's a little colder than I thought, said Jessica Dodson, 24, who wades in the water outsider her brother's home Saturday afternoon. The Dodson family, who live on River Ends Drive in Jefferson County just outside of Eureka,  were able to remove many of the household items before the Meramec and Big Rivers flooded the first floor of the home.
