Pope John Paul II made a whirlwind 31-hour visit to St. Louis 10 years ago -- on Jan. 26-27, 1999. The visit included a Mass at the (then) Trans World Dome, a youth event and his request to Gov. Mel Carnahan to commute the sentence of a man facing execution. Carnahan did.
