Laurie Skrivan, a graduate from the University of Missouri School of Journalism joined the photography staff of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in 1998. Laurie documents everyday life looking for light, moment, composition, intimacy and humor. Her photojournalism has also been honored by Pictures of the Year International, Best of the Post and National Press Photographers Association. A graduate of Clayton High School, she can't seem to make it our of the central corridor and resides in Richmond Heights.
AUGUST 12 2010 - Assembly line worker Mileva Avdic of St. Louis City, center, stretches the members of the cell team at their beginning of her shift at the Vi-Jon Inc. Thursday afternoon. Vi-Jon Inc. is just one of the areas businesses that has recently adopted Lean Manufacturing, the business philosphy emphasizing effeciency and cutting waste in the workplace. FEBRUARY 03 2010-  We are so lucky she is alive. The doctors said that if we had waited another half-hour to bring her to the ER things would have turned out drastically different, said Mike Karpowecz of Eureka, who tends to his five-year daughter Ava, at Cardinal Glennon Hospital Wednesday morning. Ava slipped on the ice Saturday morning and hit her head. Although there were no signs of an injury, a life-threatening blood clot formed. This is the same type of injury actress Natasha Richardson died from a skiing accident last year. According to her doctor, Ava will make a full recovery. Laurie Skrivan lskrivan@post-dispatch.com

JUNE 11 2010 -  I plan to be her for a long time, said Debbie Davis, who enjoys the breeze mess up her hair  while riding to dinner Thursday night for Dine Out for the Cure. JUNE 12 2010 - I can't fight the tears, said Kathy Linneman of St. Ann, far right, a 16-year breast cancer survivor, who held hands with fellow survivors, from left to right,Vera Coleman of Granite City, Illinois and LaVern (CQ) Moore of North County,  after the survivors paraded to the stage to be honored before the start of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Saturday morning. According to race officials, over 70,000 people have registered to run in the 2010 St. Louis race Saturday. MAY 20 2010 -  I wish I could take all your pain away, said Chris Sloan, mother of fallen St. Louis Police Officer Nicholas Sloan, to Alicia Moore, the widow of officer Julius Moore who died last year in the line of duty. Both Sloan and Moore were among the 163 police officers who have their lives in the line of duty honored at the 24th St. Louis Police Foundation's Memorial Breafast at the America's Center Thursday morning. MAY 12 2010 - I only come up to here, said kindergarten teacher Carolyn Fishback, who jokes around with former student and current Hillsboro High School senior Jarrod Huskey, 18, at a renunion breakfast Wednesday morning.  All 11 kindergarten teachers who taught at Hillsboro Elementary in the 1997/98 school year shared memories and words of wisdom over breakfast with the seniors they taught all those years ago. MARCH 31 2010 -  This is my new favorite thing. It's my perfect tan fish, boasted Henry Von Schweinsberg of St. Louis who took in the sunshine at Forest Park with his new thrift shop purchase of a $2 pillow fish. MAY 19 2010-   A place setting sits on an empty table adorned the stage at the 24th St. Louis Police Foundation's Memorial Breakfast in honor to  the 163 police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty at the America's Center Thursday morning.  The white table cloth represents the officer's intention to respond to the call of duty. The red rose represents those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while the white rose resprents the witness of those tragedies. The slice of lemons reminds those of their bitter fate. OCTOBER 01 2010 - I named him Murphy in memory of our chocolate lab, said first grader Margaret Bryan, 5 1/2 of University City, who brought \her stuffed animal for a blessing during a special outdoor mass at Christ the King Catholic School Friday morning. This is the second year for the outdoor mass, Mass in the Grass and animal blessing which was held in the honor of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. FEBRUARY 27 2010 -According to PJ's Tavern owner Paul Cartier it is too soon to tell how the smoking ban has affected his overall business. But one thing is for sure, we are are seeing a lot more families, said Cartier.  A youth girls's basketball team held their end of the season's banquet Saturday evening at the restaurant. MARCH 5 2010 - Mother and daughter Vikki Meyers, and Hailee Meyers,18, of Edwardsville, Illinois, held hands for support duriing the 7th Annual St. Baldrick's Foundation 8-hour long shave-a-thon at Helen Fitzgerald's Bar and Grill Saturday.  Two hundred and ninety people had their heads shaved to help raise money to fight pediatric cancer.
